What do you see?

I hear of your flaming arrows
The poisonous words
Meant to hurt
To wound
Tears rise to the surface
As I ponder how much you must ache
The chains that must hold you close
The scars so deep
The walls so high and wide
That keep love from piercing your side
I wonder as you look in the mirror what you see
How hard it must be
For when I look at you there is beauty
Hidden deep below the mask
Shown to the world like a well worn badge
My heart aches at the need to push away
The one thing most desired, most needed
How many times will your ears not hear
Your heart not feel
Your hands push away
The love that will always stay
Is that what keeps you running each day?
